If you’ve ever felt the need to record your screen, whether it is to guide someone on how to do something on the MacBook, or to create guides for YouTube, then you may have felt you need some software to do that. However, as it so happens, many screen capturing apps on the Mac App Store are rather pocket-rattling.
But if you don’t want to break the bank, there’s a way to record your Mac’s screen without spending a dime, and it’s built-in in OS X and you can start using it right now for free.
The answer lies in QuickTime!
Let’s find out how to record your Macbook’s screen for free and for whatever purpose you need to do that for:
1. Launch QuickTime. You can do that through the Application Launchpad and finding the software in the Others folder.
2. Once launched, go to Files on top, and select New Screen Recording from the drop down.
3. A new Screen Recording window will pop up, and you can simply press the red button to start recording your screen.
4. The Downward facing button on the right side of the record button allows you to choose if you want to record your voice with the screen recording as well. Choose None if you don’t want to do that.
Keep in mind that the quality of the video depends on the quality of your Mac’s screen. So if you are using an old Mac without Retina display, the video might be slightly pixelated. But if you use a Mac with Retina display, the video quality will reflect the higher resolution.
So there you go. QuickTime comes preinstalled on your MacBook, and it just solved a huge problem for you! Now you don’t have to go spend a dime on software that claim to record your screen but charge you for it!
